Bula Hiram, Monica, Lingo, Markus and everyone at Castaway Island!
Thank you, thank you, THANK YOU!!!! for making our special day and time with family and friends so memorable. The welcome we received from the moment that we arrived on the island was nothing that we had ever imagined. The Castaway Island staff were amazing and nothing was ever a hassle for them to do, we were greeted and served with a wonderfully big Fijian smile. The activities on the island gave us a chance to have fun with our guest, relax by the pool or enjoy a fabulous family dinner. There were many times as we kayaked around the island the phrase that was constantly repeated was “No regrets!”. Why? Because we were in paradise and we immediately had no regrets selecting Castaway Island for our wedding!
It hasn’t been easy organising a wedding from the other side of the world, however, as soon as we got on the island we both felt very relaxed. Each department had a great understanding of what we wanted for our big day and that gave us reassurance that all the meticulous planning and attention to details was going to be met. And we will admit, that we had times where we were remembering things (well it was mostly me) at random moments that needed to be organised whilst on the island. The team were incredibly accommodating and just sorted things out.
Our big day was the most exciting day in our life. Firstly, we’d like to say that for couples that want to hold onto tradition and do not want to see each other on the day of the wedding, Castaway Island has plenty of places for the bride to hide from the groom! This bride certainly had to find some hiding spots from the groom and hiding amongst the palm trees and ferns was very easy. We loved the fact that during the morning the gardeners were collecting the frangipani flowers and a bit later, we could go and see the floral arrangements in the nursery. Tomi and his team did such a fabulous that it bought tears to my eyes and to my Dad’s as I took him to the nursery.
Whilst we were both getting ready, nothing was too much trouble for Hiram and the team to do, such as distracting the hair and make up artist from getting on the first afternoon ferry (sorry ladies!). They made sure that we were fed and watered and that anything else that we needed was taken care of without hesitation.
Monkey Rock was transformed from a dream into a stunning reality. The setting was even better than perfect and to see all our family and friends watching us, making our lifelong commitment to each other. The Castaway Island choir were brilliant and even kept the kids entertained whilst I was being escorted down the sandy aisle by the Fijian warriors. After the ceremony, it was great to watch our guests let their hair down whilst we had our photos on Monkey Rock. And thankfully there was a bit of a breeze to get the perfect vail shot – thanks Stu, Malia and Hiram!
The set up for our reception was beautiful and we just managed to get a glimpse of the sun setting over the water and other islands. It was a bit windy and perhaps it might have been better to have it in the gazebo area to give us some shelter. Our reception was fabulous and everyone loved the buffet. There was more than plenty of food for everyone (and probably for the staff too) and the wines superb. Our wedding cake was exquisite with beautiful fresh flowers. It was enjoyed by all the guests, both departing and remaining on the island the next day. Despite being told that we’d need to wrap up the party at midnight, we partied on until 2am the next morning with the ipod and speakers blaring.
Once all our family and friends had left, we enjoyed a couple of days on our own to finally enjoy some other treats of our wedding package such as the 30 minute massages (which sent us to sleep), the papaya and sparkling wine left in our room, the sunset cruise – thanks for the sparkling wine Poni!, and a wonderful seafood dinner.
Thank you again Castaway Island for helping make our wedding such as special day for us and our family and friends.
We’ve sent a separate email to both Castaway Island and Fiji Weddings with photos from the day – hopefully the emails won’t be bounded back.
All the best.
Erika & Craig
