During the cocktail party, your Castaway family will perform a traditional ‘Meke’ of Fijian songs and action dances followed by our Fijian Feast at 6:30 pm.

The preparation for our traditional Fijian Feast starts early morning. You should witness the lighting of the fire, built over dry river stones in the ‘Lovo’ fire pit near the tennis court. When the stones are white hot this traditional earth oven, or ‘Lovo’, is ready to receive seafood, meats and root crop vegetables.  Once wrapped in banana leaves and palm fronds, the food parcels are then placed on those stones and covered whilst cooking. This unique method delivers truly delicious food for our buffet feast with a sensational island flavour.  We encourage you to wear a traditional Fijian ‘sulu’ (sarong) for dinner.

Celebrating the arrival year of the first Chinese immigrants to Fiji, everyone who enjoys a bit of spice in their life should indulge in the world’s first ‘1808 Fijian – Asian fusion’ menu at the Lali Sand Bar & Grill. Dine under the stars from 6:30pm – 9:30pm nightly – other than Wednesday and Saturday – limited seating, so reservations are essential.

For guests with special dietary preferences and food intolerances, please speak to our Executive Chef, Lance Seeto, and we will do our best to accommodate your requirements.

Castaway is an informal beachside resort where bare feet and sulus are the norm.  Feel free to dress casually but don’t forget a hat and sunscreen as the Fiji sun is intense!

Castaway is committed to environmental responsibility – a key value of our operation – in preserving and protecting the island’s lush tropical vegetation, white sandy beaches and vibrant coral reefs, by minimizing pollution and managing our human impact. In this regard Castaway has adopted the goals and objectives of the Mamanuca Environment Society (MES), raising awareness of our fragile environment by providing education for our guests, staff and local communities. We are benchmarked to internationally recognised standards and we constantly monitor and improve the resort’s operation using relevant internationally accepted performance indicators of best practice techniques.

Castaway produces pure drinking water from our state of the art reverse osmosis desalination plant. This provides the resort with pure water for all uses. However, as water is the most precious commodity on any island, your conservation is appreciated, as is your cooperation in reporting any leaking taps to reception.

Behind the scenes: for those interested in the mechanics of island living, speak to reception about a tour of our kitchen, power generation and water desalination plant.

Our two fresh water swimming pools provide two distinct pool environments – one for families and one for adult enjoyment.

  • The Nuku Marau pool near the Kids Club with the adjoining Bar & Grill provides a fun and relaxing family environment. We hope you and your family will enjoy the ‘Nuku’ as it is affectionately known. Please refrain from allowing children wearing diapers or nappies in the pool.

The Nuku Bar & Grill is open from 9:00am.

  • Our central ‘Malua’ fresh water pool and surrounds are designed to provide a quiet adult friendly environment for reading, relaxing and swimming enjoyment.

Please note: No children wearing diapers or nappies are allowed in this pool. No floatation devices are allowed in this pool.

The ‘Malua’ swim up bar offers cool cocktails and other refreshing beverages from 10:00am.

For the enjoyment of all guests, your cooperation and understanding is appreciated in communicating this information to children and young adults in your party.

We provide a bag wash and fold service daily for a minimal charge. Simply deliver your bag of washing (maximum fifteen items) to the ladies at our laundry, adjacent to the Kids Club, by 6:00 pm. Your clothes will be washed, folded and ready for pick up the following day by mid afternoon.
