Changing of the guard at Castaway Island, Fiji

For immediate release 24 May 2012

Long time Castaway Island Resort Manager, Dawn Wakeham announced her retirement plans earlier this year.  Ms Wakeham will retire from her role as Resort Manager on 27 May, the very same day that she joined the popular island resort some fifteen years ago.

‘Dawn’s cumulative record of accomplishments over the years is testament to her dedication and professionalism’, Castaway’s Chairman & CEO, Geoffrey N Shaw, said  ‘what makes Dawn special to me is her character and compassion as a person. She is one who truly leads by example and is held in high regard by our Castaway family, travel industry partners and our many returnee guests’ he said.

“I’m going to miss my Castaway family very much, however I feel the time is right to hand over the reigns to a very capable and invigorated team” Ms Wakeham said.

Steven Andrews who has been with Castaway Island for seven years as Manager Operations and more recently Acting Resort Manager, seamlessly transitions to the Resort Manager’s role on 28 May. Steven has gained a wealth of experience during his time at Castaway and prior to that at Jean Michel Cousteau Resort. Importantly, over the years Steven has forged strong and lasting relationships with industry colleagues and Castaway’s many returnee guests.

To complete the new management structure, Castaway Island welcomed Daniel Roy to the role of Operations Manager early this year. Daniel also brings a wealth of experience from his various industry roles and for over six years with Sofitel Fiji Resort & Spa, most recently as Front Office Manager.

Mr Shaw added ‘Both Dawn and I have every confidence and faith in Steven and Daniel leading our capable team. Together with the support of our senior management and resort staff, the spirit of Castaway endures.’

As a long term Australian investor committed to Fiji hospitality, Geoffrey Shaw continues to show confidence in the capabilities of local people by the appointment and succession plan of senior personnel at Castaway Island, Fiji

Castaway Island, Fiji is one of Fiji’s most popular island resorts located in the beautiful Mamanuca Islands of Fiji and featuring 66 individual thatched bures.

Dawny you don’t look a day older than I remember. Enjoy your retirement. Up North I suspect.
Keep well and hi to the Castaway family.
