Castaway Fiji Resort Review…

It’s very exciting when we get Resort reviews sent to us after people have stayed on our beautiful island home. We loved this one, posted by Daniel, on our Facebook Page. Thanks so much for taking the time to write a resort review of our tropical island home. Junior Master Chef Alex Gearing Meets Castaway’s Senior Master Chef

BIG CHEF, LITTLE CHEF AND A HUGE EASTER EGG HUNT ON CASTAWAY ISLAND, FIJI!

We’re were excited to have the amazing Alex Gearing on island over Easter participating in the huge Easter Egg Hunt with over 100 other kids. Alex and his family spent Easter enjoying the stunning weather and the food created by our own MasterChef – Lance Seeto.

Excerpt from Fiji Times…

One of Australia’s Junior Masterchefs was holidaying in Fiji with his family for Easter, and met up with

Sunday Fiji Times contributor Chef Lance Seeto on Castaway Island yesterday.

Alex Gearing, aged 11, was one of the top 5 finalists on Australia’s top rating cooking show “Junior

Masterchef”, after moving to Australia from England three years ago where he never dreamt of being on

television. He has a real passion for cooking and is loving his first time in Fiji. Asked about his first

impressions of Fiji, Alex says “everyone has been so nice and I’ve been at the beach enjoying the sun

everyday!”.

Talking about Chef Seeto’s menus he said “His food is really good and I love how he has infused a little

bit of Fijian culture in all his dishes. I really felt like I was in Fiji when I ate his food. And lots of lots of

coconuts too!”

Alex, his brother Adam, and the rest of his family have been holidaying in Fiji to get away from the colder

weather in Australia and to experience the South Pacific for the first time. Alex’s mother, Elizabeth said

that coming to Fiji has been beyond the family’s expectation and a great holiday destination for families.

“The people here are just so friendly and welcoming. We’re coming back for sure!”

While on Castaway Island, Alex and nearly one hundred other children have been enjoying the special

Easter holiday activities including their Amazing Race-style adventure which saw them race across the

island competing and learning about Fijian cuisine and culture. One of the challenges was making

herbal Noni juice from kura with their bare hands, and another was ordering food in Fijian from the

kitchen.

Having watched the TV show on DVD’s sent by his friends in Australia, Chef Seeto is a huge admirer of

the Junior Masterchef series as it promotes cooking skills and a better appreciation of food amongst

young people. “I think kid’s like Alex are great role models for the younger generation, showing them that

learning to cook is not just for the grown ups. If people of Alex’s age can learn to appreciate a wide

variety of different cuisines, cultures and cooking styles, it will only benefit them later in life.”

Alex loves cooking a variety of dishes but his most favourite is desserts. He admits Crème Brulee is the

most difficult thing he has ever made and would love to work in television as a presenter or a chef when

he grows up.

As a parting gift and memory of his stay, Chef Seeto presented Alex with a specially-made Castaway

Island cap embroided with “Chef” and extended a personal invitation to return Fiji as his guests the next

holidays.

Junior MasterChef Alex Gearing on Castaway Island Fiji for Easter

Guest Review – Sheer Bliss!

Guest Review – “Thank you for a wonderful experience on Castaway Island, Fiji”.

Michael is a personal trainer in Manly, Australia so a place like Castaway proved to be perfect for an active person who still needed to chill out. Vinaka for your kind words Michael!

“…Michael, Nell and Kohia just took a week trip to Fiji and stayed most of the week on Castaway Island. I felt compelled to share some of the experience out of gratitude to the staff and people on the island that made our trip such a fantastic experience.

Castaway Island is a small beautiful tropical island, surrounded by flat clear water where you can see the corral and fish the moment you arrive. But even with the lovely weather, majestic sunsets, great food and relaxing activities nothing compares to the people there and the experience that they create for and with you.

Castaway Island is a four start resort but it isn’t about ticking the boxes for a star rating, after all that is only a guide, it’s about the holiday experience and the Fijian staff and locals at Castaway Island just make that experience sheer bliss. Even before you set foot on the island there is a welcoming group on the beach singing and celebrating your arrival. We didn’t even feel like we checked in, we went straight up to the main lounge for a welcoming drink and sat chatting with some of the staff and other guests who just arrived, we were than taken down to our bure, our new home for the week, to discover that our luggage was seamlessly picked up from the South Seas Cruises transport catamaran and delivered to our room that was only 20m from the beach. All the resort staff are so welcoming and cheerful you can’t help but be happy and it spreads through all the guests. We met and talked to people from all around the world, some from the next suburb over from where we live in Sydney…” READ MORE ON MICHAEL’S WEBSITE

Ohhhh- Oprah’s coming to Fiji!

News just out! Oprah’s coming to Fiji

Just for the record, Oprah’s not staying on Castaway…but she’s most welcome if she changes her mind last minute! We’re not sure if she’d cope with our “no TV” bures however.

Here’s a news excerpt from smh.com.au….

“Oprah takes the show to the islands

December 16, 2010 – 11:51AM

After all the action of her Ultimate Australian Adventure talkshow queen Oprah Winfrey will fly out of Sydney this afternoon to Fiji to spend a week chilling out.

“She’s coming for a private visit and we respect her wishes to do so,” Fiji’s Tourism Minister Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum  said.

Winfrey is scheduled to touch down in Nadi this afternoon where she will be whisked away for five days on a private island.

“Fiji is one of those destinations where we like people to come and have their own private time and we’re here to ensure that happens,” said Mr Sayed-Khaiyum, who is also the country’s attorney-general.

“We don’t want Fiji to become a playground for the paparazzi.”

Winfrey’s businessman beau Stedman Graham will be joining her for time in the Pacific island nation, Fiji TV reported.

“Oprah coming to Fiji … it is obviously a very strong endorsement that Fiji is a destination for relaxing and private time out which is very good for the country,” Mr Sayed-Khaiyum said.”

How exciting for our South Pacific Islands paradise!

BULA! BULA! Oprah.
